Special Guest: Binirayan Festival of Antique

The Binirayan Festival of the Province of Antique joins Dinagyang 2027 as a non-competing contingent. Antique’s Binirayan has a history in the competition, having won the Dinagyang title in 1983, 1989, and 1995.

Who’s Not on the List

Two tribes from the 2026 competition — Tribu Bulawanon sang Molo and Tribu Ilayanhon — are not part of the 2027 line-up. The Tultugan Festival of Maasin, which had sought a slot in the Ati Tribes Competition after winning three straight Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan titles, is also not included in the official list.

What's New for Dinagyang 2027: Back to Calle Real

In 2026, the Ati Tribes Competition followed a modified route from the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand in City Proper to the Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz. After strong public feedback, IFFI announced that the 2027 edition will return to the festival’s traditional format. According to IFFI chairman Judgee Peña, the plan includes:

  • Return to Calle Real: Performances move back to the historic downtown route in Iloilo City Proper, long regarded as the heart of Dinagyang.
  • Four to five judging areas: Previous editions used the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand, Iloilo Provincial Capitol, Delgado-Mabini Streets, Ledesma-Quezon Streets, and Maria Clara Street.
  • Carousel-style performances: Tribes rotate through each judging area, so more spectators along the route can see full performances.
  • Banderitas are back: Sponsors will be encouraged to put up the festive street flags again after they were left out in 2026.

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. has also said the provincial government will align the Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan route with the Ati tribes’ rotation. Final venue and judging-area details are still subject to IFFI’s consultations with the Iloilo City Government.

What Is the 2027 Dinagyang Theme?

The official theme for Dinagyang 2027 has not been announced yet. Recent theme announcements have followed this pattern:

  • 2026 theme: “Bugay sang Gino-o. Bugal sang mga Ilonggo” (Blessings of God, Pride of the Ilonggos) — announced at the grand launch on October 22, 2025
  • 2025 theme: “Buhi nga Pagtuo sa Kinabuhi sang mga Ilonggo” (Living Faith in the Lives of Ilonggos)
  • 2024 theme: “Pagdayaw kay Señor Sto. Niño, Padayaw sang mga Ilonggo”

Based on this pattern, expect the 2027 theme to be unveiled at a grand launch event around October 2026. This section will be updated the moment IFFI makes an official announcement.

Dinagyang 2027 Festival Schedule (Expected)

Until IFFI releases the official program, here is the general structure Dinagyang has followed in recent years:

Pre-Festival (December 2026 – Early January 2027)

  • Pamukaw (Awakening) — traditionally mid-December, held at dawn with the start of Simbang Gabi
  • Opening Salvo — early January, with previews of the Kasadyahan and tribes performances
  • Miss Iloilo Coronation and the Dinagyang Marathon — usually in the weeks before the main weekend

Main Festival Weekend (January 22–24, 2027, expected)

  • Friday evening — ILOmination Philippine Light Festival and Floats Parade
  • Saturday — Fluvial and Solemn Foot Procession honoring Santo Niño, and the Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan
  • Sunday — Ati Tribes Competition (Grand Finals), followed by the Awarding Ceremony

Where to Watch Dinagyang 2027

If the return to Calle Real is finalized, the main viewing areas will be in Iloilo City Proper. Likely judging areas, based on past editions, include the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand, the Iloilo Provincial Capitol, and street-level areas along Delgado-Mabini, Ledesma-Quezon, and Maria Clara Streets. Because of the carousel format, street-side spectators along the route can watch full performances for free. Ticketed grandstand seating is usually sold separately.

Dinagyang 2027 Tickets: What to Expect

Official 2027 ticket prices and sale dates have not been released. For reference, 2025 grandstand tickets for the Ati Tribes Competition cost ₱2,500 (Gold Tier) and ₱2,000 (Silver Tier), and were sold online and sold out within weeks. Follow IFFI’s official Iloilo Dinagyang Festival Facebook page for the 2027 sale announcement.

Getting to Iloilo City for Dinagyang 2027

Iloilo City is served by Iloilo International Airport, with regular flights from Manila, Cebu, and other Philippine cities, plus ferry connections. Within the city, jeepneys, tricycles, taxis, and Grab are the standard ways to get around — though downtown streets close to traffic during the festival weekend, so plan to walk the last stretch to Calle Real. Hotel rooms routinely sell out for Dinagyang weekend, so book early.

What Is the Dinagyang Festival?

Dinagyang is a religious and cultural festival held every fourth Sunday of January in Iloilo City, Philippines, in honor of the Santo Niño (Holy Child Jesus). It traces its origins to 1968, when a replica of the Santo Niño de Cebu was brought to Iloilo. Its name, coined in 1977 by broadcaster Pacifico Sudario, comes from the Hiligaynon word “dagyang,” meaning merrymaking.

The centerpiece is the Ati Tribes Competition, in which tribes in elaborate Ati warrior costumes perform choreographed routines to thundering drums, telling stories from the history of Panay Island, including the Barter of Panay between the ten Bornean datus and the indigenous Ati people.
