Futran Philippines, Inc. is proposing the use of podcars, or personal rapid transit, for public transportation in Iloilo City. This is part of the company’s plan to use small automated vehicles that will run on a specially designed network of guideways. The proposal was presented to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, who expressed excitement about the idea. Futran Philippines, Inc. is seeking a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the city government to conduct a feasibility study. This will allow them to gather necessary data like the Comprehensive Land Use Plan and population data. Futran Philippines, Inc. is the first company in the country to produce podcars.
Mayor Treñas believes that the use of podcars could usher in a new era of sustainable commuting. He emphasized that having more alternative modes of transportation available would be beneficial for the residents of Iloilo City. The proposal from Futran Philippines, Inc. was also presented to Mandaue City in Cebu, and an MOU has already been signed for a feasibility study on the same proposed project.
Podcars have been proven to be a safe mode of transportation in other countries such as Germany, Japan, and China. Futran Transport System is an automated, low-cost mass transport system that is produced using modern manufacturing, control, and construction technology. The company ensures that its products are safe and reliable and is approved by Germany’s TUV Rheinland, the world’s recognized technical service provider and certification body.
In March, another company proposed the development of an e-vehicle (EV) bus rapid transit (BRT) in Iloilo City. The proposal was presented to Mayor Treñas by representatives from First Balfour Inc. This is seen as a step-change in the commuting experience for the people of Iloilo City. The EV BRT system is a low-carbon urban transport system that not only reduces traffic congestion but also contributes to the development of the local economy while having a positive impact on the environment.
