University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Celebrates Paskua with Opening of Lights and Christmas Concert

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) kicked off its annual Paskua celebration with the Opening of Lights at its Iloilo City and Miagao campuses on December 5th and 6th, respectively. The switch-on at each campus was led by UPV Chancellor Clement Camposano, Vice Chancellor for Administration John Lorenz Belanio, and College of Arts and Sciences Dean Alice Joan Ferrer, who also served as Paskua 2022 chair. Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and officials from various schools and institutions in Iloilo City and Miagao attended the Opening of Lights, along with representatives from the Miagao local government unit and its barangays at the Miagao campus.

This year’s Paskua festivities also included a Christmas concert at the Iloilo City campus, featuring performances from eight groups from various schools and universities in the city, including the Iloilo Science and Technology University, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, St. Paul University Iloilo, Central Philippine University, Western Institute of Technology, West Visayas State University, University of San Agustin, and UP High School in Iloilo. This marked the first time that UPV has held a Christmas concert at the Iloilo City campus for its annual Paskua celebration.

The theme for this year’s Paskua celebration is “Pagsaulog sang Kabuhi kag Kadalag-an” (Celebrating Life and Victories), and the event was an opportunity for UPV faculty, staff, and students to come together and celebrate their achievements and the holiday season. Chancellor Camposano encouraged attendees to overcome selfishness and embrace a sense of community and togetherness in his message at the Opening of Lights.

Other activities scheduled for Paskua 2022 include a fun run, a Symposium and Fellowship for UPV non-teaching staff, an Aguinaldo mass, gift-giving for children of UPV employees, a liturgical celebration, a Lantern Parade and Christmas program, and a Christmas party for UPV’s relocation centers. This year’s Paskua celebration also marks the end of a series of events for the 75th UP Presence in Iloilo celebration.
